From the Visayan Daily Star:
On Nov. 5, 1898,
revolutionaries led by Gen, Juan Araneta from Bago City and Gen. Aniceto
Lacson from Silay City carrying fake rifles fashioned from nipa stalks
and cannons from rolled bamboo mats (amakan) painted black, deceived the
Spanish colonizers into surrendering.
In 1989, then President Corazon Aquino declared November 5 a special non-working holiday in Negros Occidental.
